Sports For Hope Talent Search Fundraising Day 2017

Uncover Sporting Potential of Local Youth

Sports For Hope Foundation and SF&OC Sports Legacy Scheme will organise the “Sports For Hope Talent Search Fundraising Day” to provide opportunities for individuals to explore their sports potential through the Talent Search Program. Fitness Challenge and Team Challenge will also be organized for local sport enthusiasts to put their physical fitness to test while raising funds for the Organizers to support the Scheme and other sporting institutions. The Event is scheduled on the weekend of 25-26 November 2017 at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wanchai.
As a long-term beneficiary of the Sports For Hope Foundation, the Sports Legacy Scheme has benefitted over 5,000 students, who live in remote area and lack of resources, from eight secondary schools since its launching in February 2012. The current 3-year Scheme from 2015 to 2018, commenced in September 2015, is now serving more than 4,300 students from 14 secondary schools.
Capitalising on the proprietary designed Sports Legacy Fitness Charts, Sports Legacy coaches will be able to help individuals identify their sports talent after they complete the fitness tests in the Talent Search Program. Participants will undertake several tests to assess different aspects of their fitness level and uncover their sporting potential. Professional coaches of the Scheme will help explain the findings and give advice to the participants. A number of sports will be recommended to the participants and they will be invited to attend the sports try-out sessions organised by the National Sports Associations. Additional information about continued learning and training opportunities in the sports will also be made available.
Sports Legacy Scheme has assigned their Premier Team to this meaningful event, including Hong Kong’s legendary cyclist Wong Kam Po, who will be one of the Scheme’s ambassadors, together with the Sports Legacy Fitness Coaches spearheaded by Yuen Siu-lun (Karatedo), Lok Kwan-hoi (Rowing), Ng Chit-wing Ray (Athletics – Decathlon) and others, who are all current and former elite Hong Kong athletes, to take charge of the assessment of participants.
Ms Marie Christine-Lee, Founder of Sports For Hope Foundation is delighted to the co-operation with Sports Legacy Scheme. She said, “We have been providing funding to the Scheme for many years for promoting local sports development and fitness training programs. We want to raise the public awareness of the Scheme through this event, and enrich their knowledge about talent identification process, which hopefully will enhance the chances of youngsters picking up sports at an earlier age, help cultivate the talented to reach their fullest potential and become the future sports stars of Hong Kong.”
“Sports For Hope Talent Search Fundraising Day” is the very first major event after Wong Kam Po joined the Sports Legacy Scheme last month. He said, “Of course I will do my best to help prepare and promote this Event.? More importantly, I am fully supportive to vision of this Event, which is to help everyone unearth their sporting capability, guide them to find a pathway of participation and begin their ultimate Olympic dream.”
The Organizers have re-designed the components of Sports Legacy Fitness Program and customised the Fitness and Team Challenges to cater for the sports and fitness enthusiasts, so that they can personally take part in the challenging fitness competition while supporting local sports development through fund-raising.
Participants in the Fitness Challenge have to take on a series of physical fitness tests focusing on upper limbs, lower limbs and core muscles. It is a speed challenge that the time required to complete all fitness tests will be recorded to decide the winner, who will be presented with prizes.
They can also form a team of six to enter the Team Challenge. Similar to the Fitness Challenge, each member will take on a series of challenging physical fitness tests. The competition will be in a relay format and the aggregate time taken by all six members to complete all the fitness tests will be recorded. The fastest team in each category will be the final winner, and will be presented with a prize.
The Organizers have also arranged pre-event training sessions for registered participants to receive instruction from the Sports Legacy coaches in advance and get well prepared for the upcoming Challenges.
